Android 7.1.1 Update To Reach Nexus 6P From Dec 6
Google last week rolled out the final developer preview for Android 7.1 to Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9 and Pixel C devices. Now a mobile career from Australia has posted that it will roll out the Android 7.1.1 update to the Nexus 6P on December 6. This is in line with Dave Burke’s, the vice president of engineering at Google, statement that the final build will reach the said devices in December.
According to Vodafone Australia website, the Android 7.1.1 update is 650MB in size and the build number is NMF26F. It is to be noted that the Developer Preview 2 was basically a testing bed before roll out of the final Android 7.1.1 update.
The career website has put full details how it plans to roll out the update. It says:
10,000 phones are selected at random to be eligible for the update, users are either alerted via FOTA Push Message or must check manually for the update
An additional 10% of the remaining pool are selected per day and users must check manually for the update
All devices are eligible for the update
It is a general practice for software updates to roll out in phases, and we expect the update to be available in India in a similar way. Vodafone Australia’s notification suggests that the update will be ready by December 6, which is for everyone not only Australia. The Nexus 6P users in India can also expect the roll out to be around that time.
The Android 7.1.1 update brings features like home screen app shortcuts, circular icons and image keyboard. The home screen app shortcuts work similar to Apple’s 3D Touch, which means users will be able to access some of an app’s functions without opening the app.
Google’s latest Pixel phones will also get the Android 7.1.1 update soon, however, it will be slightly different than on other eligible devices. The non Pixel devices will not get all the features that Pixels have, which include Google Assistant and Pixel Launcher.
