Apple Planning 5.8-inch iPhone With OLED Screen, Wireless Charging
While Apple may be bucking the trend and releasing an iPhone with a smaller screen; with the iPhone SE, it has an eye on the future, if reports are to believed. By this we mean that the Cupertino based company could be planning to release a massive iPhone with 5.8-inch OLED screen that would also have features like wireless charging. This information is coming directly from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
If this information is true, then the phone would have a screen size bigger than not only the current iPhone 6S Plus, but also Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 and the Google Nexus 6P. More importantly, Apple could dump the aluminium back found on the current model in favour of a curved glass back in order to incorporate wireless charging.
The glass back is one of the reasons why companies like Xiaomi and Samsung are able to use wireless charging on their phones. Apple isn’t able to because aluminium wouldn’t allow an electrical current to pass through especially one that’s so powerful that would allow charging of a phone.
Kuo is also postulating that glass on the back could also help Apple make the phone thinner and slimmer something the company has always obsessively strived to achieve with its gadgets.
Other new features on the phone could include a biometric scanning using the front camera. For this, the company has already acquired a small company called Emotient which is known for this kind of technology. Emotient’s technology specialised is facial recognition, facshift and real time 3D rendering.
Apple is rumoured to be launching the 5.8-inch screen model of the iPhone in 2017-18, however, there are reports which suggest that a large screen model could also come in 2016 for the iPhone 7 which would likely be launched in the later half of the year. Apple has also been talking to suppliers like Samsung and LG for sourcing AMOLED displays.
Till now, Apple only uses OLED screens in its Apple Watch, but that could change for the iPhone as OLED screens are known to be more power efficient.
