Canva Comes To India,Woos Tech-Savvy Designers
Canva, an Australia-based online designing platform, was officially launched in the Indian market on October 14, 2015. The company said that over 2,000 users were signing up every day for the service in India and that it hoped to reach 1 million users in the country by the end of 2016.
Used in more than 179 countries, Canva is a free designing tool. It has over 5 million users across the world and a fairly prolific community of Indian users, which has so far created over 1 million designs. Canva offers design tools to anyone planning to create digiutal designs.
It also allows designers to access a library of images for free. A few additional tools such as a marketplace and customised services for companies require a premium.
This free designing tool is not new to the Indian users as it has over 150,000 users in India.
“Design in India comes with a background of so much colour, vibrance and a multicultural ethos that is native to the Indian spirit. For this reason, we are launching in India with customized festival themed templates to cater to digital marketers, bloggers and designers during the upcoming festive season,” said Melanie Perkins, CEO and founder of Canva.
To woo Indian designers, the company plans to offer customised Indian design elements in its design library. Canva now has templates for cards and social media posts to celebrate festivals such as Durga Pooja, Dussehra and Diwali.
Now valued at $165 million, the company will be investing in local marketing, business developments and brand partnerships in India aiming every social media marketers, bloggers and small businesses to become Canva-friendly.
