Flipkart Survey Reveals Mobiles As Top Performing Category For Online Shoppers In India
India’s biggest e-commerce company Flipkart on Wednesday released details of an online survey it conducted across 50 million customers and between January and December 2015 has revealed that shoppers in India like buying their phones and electronics online. In fact, both mobiles and electronics emerged as the high growth categories.
“2015 is truly the year of the digital Indian consumer. The data taken from FlipTrends, an analysis of over 50 million registered Flipkart shoppers in 2015, shows that Indians are taking to shopping online at a very fast clip. What is particularly gratifying to note is that Flipkart is taking the lead in introducing the ease and convenience of online shopping to millions of Indians in Tier 2, Tier 3 towns, and in rural areas.

All the metro cities saw a massive increase, in terms of mobile shoppers. Delhi NCR region topped the list of cities that Flipkart defined as most online shopping savvy city in India. It was followed by Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad. Amongst tier 1 cities Pune took the lead and was followed by followed by Coimbatore, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
The study also showed that 69 per cent of the shoppers were male. The survey also revealed that e-commerce shoppers in India largely was made up of people between the age group of 25-34.
After mobiles and electronics, lifestyle products were very popular followed by women’s and men’s clothing. Mobile phones also comprised of the maximum search queries followed by shoes. Handsets were the top products in the survey and they were followed by mobile phone covers/ cases.
