Huawei Launches Mate 9 Lite With Dual Rear Cameras

Huawei has silently launched the Mate 9 Lite, possibly the cheapest Mate 9 variant, and listed it on its official website without pricing and availability details.

The Mate 9 Lite joins the ranks of the Mate 9, Mate 9 Porsche Design and Mate 9 Pro flagship phones and going by its spec sheet, looks like it should be the most affordable one of them all. The phone comes with an all metal unibody design and curved 2.5D glass on the front. There’s also a rear mounted fingerprint scanner on board the device.

The Mate 9 Lite still carries two cameras on the rear, however unlike its other siblings; it comes with a 12 megapixel+2 megapixel setup and sans any Leica certification. Moreover, the secondary rear lens can only help in creating shallow depth of field in shots. On the front, it comes with an 8 megapixel camera.

The phone comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display and an octa core Kirin 655 processor under the hood coupled with 3GB RAM/32GB memory or 4GB RAM/64GB memory. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow based EMUI 4.1 and is backed by a 3,340 mAh battery. The Mate 9 Lite will be available in the colours: gold, grey, and silver.

Huawei recently launched the Mate 9 Pro, exclusively for the China market. The Mate 9 Pro is simply a more affordable Mate 9 Porsche Design with similar specs but without the Porsche Design branding upfront.

The Mate 9 Pro has an all metal unibody design and curved 2.5D glass on the front as well. It comes with a 5.5 inch 2K AMOLED display and is powered by Huawei’s home brewed octa core Kirin 960 processor clubbed with ARM Mali G71 MP8 GPU and Android 7.0 Nougat based EMUI.

The phone will be available in two options: 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of internal memory. It sports a dual camera setup on the rear with one 20 megapixel f/2.2 monochrome and another 12 megapixel f/2.2 RGB sensor. The setup is aided with optical image stabilisation, a 4 in 1 hybrid autofocus (laser, phase detect, depth, and contrast detection) and a dual tone dual LED flash.
