Nokia Returns With Smartphones Editions
Nokia is making a comeback, is old news. Nokia will return with smartphones sometime in 2017, is news fresh from the oven. The information comes straight from the horse’s mouth, well sort of.
Nokia’s investor focused presentation PDF file has found its way to the Internet and at least two slides there in seemingly confirm that Nokia branded smartphones are indeed coming in 2017. Moreover, Finland based company called HMD will manufacture these smartphones in partnership with Foxconn, it has been re confirmed.
Although, the slides make no mention of the estimated time frame around which Nokia will launch its smartphones, previous reports have suggested that Android based Nokia phones would be released some time in Q2 2017 which means ideally the company should make some sort of announcement regarding the same at the upcoming MWC event in February. The fact that Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri will be hosting a keynote at the event also raises lots of possibilities.
As per the presentation slides, HMD holds a ten year exclusive agreement for using the Nokia brand on mobile phones. The company will invest a minimum of 500 million Euros in marketing in the first three years alone and will broadly deal with developing (marketing) and selling all Nokia branded smartphones and accessories.
“HMD has been founded to provide a focused, independent home for a full range of Nokia branded feature phones, smartphones and tablets. HMD’s new smartphone and tablet portfolio will be based on Android, uniting one of the world’s iconic mobile brands with the leading mobile operating system and app development community,” Nokia had earlier said in a statement.
Nokia is said to be working on at least two high end Android phones: one with 5.2-inch display and another with a 5.5-inch screen. Both the phones are said to sport a 2K resolution display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood. On the camera front, the high end phones from Nokia are said to come with a 22.6 megapixel camera on the rear with LED flash and support for 4K video recording.
