Apparently, there is a new bug in the town and it’s giving smartphones hell. Someone has created a website called CrashSafari.com and opening that website on the iPhone crashes the device.
While iPhone gets affected so hard with the website that it is forced to reboot, Android phones and Mac computers too feel the effect and in most cases freeze. Even Windows computers are susceptible to the website, especially the slower ones.
While an earlier bug a particular text message used a peculiar code inside the iPhone software to make the phone crash, this website seem to be using a brute force attack. It apparently overwhelms the browser, which then hog all the available RAM and make the device crash.
A report by the Guardian noted, “The code of the website appears to generate an ever-increasingly long string of characters, which becomes harder and harder for the browser to load, likely resulting in a memory issue and forcing the reboot of the device.”
On the iPhone, once the crashsafari.com has done its work, the only recourse for the user is to reboot the phone. But on other devices including on the Android devices quitting Chrome or the browser in which the website has been opened does the trick.
So what can users do with the crashsafari.com. One, they can prank their friends (and foes) with it. Although that wouldn’t be so nice. A more nicer thing to is share with your friends how they should not click on the link that send them to this particular website.
At the same time, if you don’t want your Android or the iPhone to crash, don’t click on any suspicious link, even if it has been hidden through a short URL, that you receive from your “evil” friends.
