Prime, Amazon’s Free Fast Delivery Service, Reaches India
Amazon has spent a little over three years in India and has become the most trusted online brand. It was about time the e-retailer launched its Prime service in the country. And it did. Amazon has launched its Prime membership in India with a 60 days free trial to begin with.
With the Amazon Prime membership, buyers in over 100 cities can avail free one day and two days delivery on eligible items. The products that come under this service will appear on the website with a Prime logo.
Interestingly, there will be no minimum order size for Prime subscribers. The Prime members will also have access to Amazon’s lightning deals 30 minutes before non members.
Apart from the free one and two day delivery, Prime members in 20 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, will have the option to choose discounted same day, morning, and scheduled deliveries.
Amazon said that the membership is free for 60 days in India, which is twice the period globally. After the free trial of 60 days, if a member wants to continue, they will have to pay Rs 499 for a year’s subscription. This amount is also Rs 500 less than the listed price of Rs 999, the company said.
“We are very excited to bring Prime to our customers in India. With Prime, guaranteed one day delivery becomes an everyday experience instead of an occasional indulgence, and with no minimum purchases, it provides unlimited convenience all year long” says Amit Agarwal, vice president and country head, Amazon India.
Amazon India also said that its Prime Video service is also coming to India soon. The Prime Video gives members exclusive access to Amazon original series and movies, and premium movies and TV shows from Indian and global content providers.
The Prime service doesn’t benefit just buyers, the company has plans for sellers as well.
“For sellers, Fulfillment by Amazon is now an even more powerful opportunity to rapidly grow their business and at the same time, provide customers across India with vast selection and unlimited fast free Prime delivery.”
In May this year, MakTech, a tech blog, had reported citing the website’s source code that the premium service is coming to India.
