Skype Offers Free International Calls Into Tamil Nadu
After Google and Facebook, Skype has come forward to help flood hit Chennai by offering free international calls to landlines and mobiles into Tamil Nadu for the next few days. However, the company clearly states that the free calls exclude calls to premium service and non-geographical numbers.
“In light of the devastating floods in Chennai and the subsequent impact to the local communications infrastructure with immediate effect we are making all international calls to landlines and mobiles into Tamil Nadu free of charge* for the next few days”, reads the company’s blogpost .
Microsoft owned Skype is an application that helps users make video and audio calls. Battling with rain and flood, Chennai is receiving support from several tech companies. Facebook activated its Safety Check feature on Thursday morning while Google’s Crisis Response tool is actively helping people by bringing all the vital information under one roof.
Telcos like BSNL, Airtel and Paytm have also pitched in for the city by offering free recharges and calls. Food ordering app Zomato has started meal plan where for every meal a user buys for Chennai, company adds one more and sends for two.
Meanwhile health app Practo also released a verified list of doctors and hospitals while Ola, the cab service app is running free services in water logged areas.
