Xiaomi Mi 4 To Get Windows 10 Update on December 3
Earlier in the year Microsoft collaborated with Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi for a special programme where a select few Mi 4 users could install the technical preview of Windows 10 for mobile on their phones.
The Mi 4, which runs on Android Lollipop with Mi UI 7, will now get an optional update to Microsoft’s new mobile operating system, which so far has only been seen on devices like the newly launched Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
Xiaomi’s co-founder and president, Bin Lin, posted a photo on Chinese social network Weibo, which suggests that a Windows 10 update for the phone will be released on December 3.
Right now, only the Mi 4 and the Mi Pad 2 will get the update to Windows 10. However, there are rumours which are swirling that suggest even the Mi Pro could get the update to Windows 10.
Microsoft officially launched Windows 10 to great fanfare at the end of July. For phones, however, it has just started rolling out the update for phones.
While the update for the Mi 4 will come on December 3, there is no word when the update will be released for the Mi Pad 2, which itself was announced last week.
The Mi 4 is more than a year old and runs on the ageing Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, which doesn’t support 64-bit applications. It is paired with 3GB RAM, 64GB of storage, a 13-megapixel camera on the back with a f/1.9 aperture and a 8-megapixel camera on the front.
The phone also has a 5-inch Full HD display and a 3,080mAh battery which is quite big for a phone of its class.
Recently, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi Note 2, which because its first phone with a full metal body. Rumours about the impending launch of the Mi 5 remain, but Xiaomi officials maintain it will be worth the wait. Many believe, once Qualcomm releases its Snapdragon 820 chipset, Xiaomi will announce the device.
